Top 14: Toulon to honour departing players, Toulouse sign Arthur Retiere

Toulon have announced a special farewell ceremony for nine players this coming weekend, with the departure of fly-half Louis Carbonel still irking the faithful.

The 23-year-old is heading down the coast to Montpellier, despite fans signing a petition calling for his departure to be stopped.

Big names going

Another youngster to depart is 26-year-old Anthony Belleau, who will also be fondly remembered by the fans for his last-gasp drop goal against La Rochelle in the 2017 Top 14 semi-final.

Eben Etzebeth’s departure will be less controversial, after the lock endured a mixed time at the Mayol, blighted by injuries and other absences.

Anthony Belleau (26, Clermont), Louis Carbonel (23, Montpellier), Théo Dachary (25), Eben Etzebeth (30, Sharks), Leone Nakarawa (34), Julien Ory (25), Mike Sosene-Feagai (29, Agen), Lopeti Timani (31, Cardiff), Petero Tuwai (26) all leave the club at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Toulouse have snaffled yet another star back, this time pinching Arthur Retiere from La Rochelle.

Retiere leaves La Rochelle after scoring 35 tries in 111 matches and will also help foster his younger brother Edgar, currently in the Toulouse Espoir squad

“It’s an honour to sign at Stade Toulousain! We had been in contact for some time and I felt it was the right time for me to join the club,” he said.

“I am all the more happy that I will have the chance to find my little brother. I can’t wait to start my adventure here!”
