Rugby Championship highlights: All Blacks end losing run with win over Springboks

The All Blacks got their Rugby Championship campaign back on track courtesy of a deserved 35-23 victory against the Springboks in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Richie Mo’unga led the way with a 15-point haul courtesy of three penalties and three conversions while their other points came courtesy of tries from Sam Cane, Samisoni Taukei’aho, David Havili and Scott Barrett.

For South Africa, Lukhanyo Am and Makazole Mapimpi crossed the whitewash and their other points came via the boot of Handre Pollard, who succeeded with three penalties and a couple of conversions.

New Zealand raced into a 15-0 lead by the 35th minute after Cane and Taukei’aho scored their tries and Mo’unga added a penalty and a conversion.

Springbok fightback

The hosts struck back with a Pollard penalty and Am’s converted try which meant the All Blacks were leading 15-10 at half-time.

Pollard reduced the deficit with another penalty early in the first half before Mo’unga added two three-pointers off the kicking tee of his own but the Boks struck back with Mapimpi’s try which meant the side’s were evenly poised with the score 21-20 in the All Blacks’ favour.

Another Pollard penalty in the 68th minute gave the Boks the lead for the first time but the visitors finished stronger and sealed their victory with late tries from Havili and Barrett.
